Everson Griffen signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Ifeadi Odenigbo is going to have some big shoes to fill this season.

Yesterday, it was announced that one of the Minnesota Vikings former defensive stars had signed with the Dallas Cowboys. This marks the end of an era for Minnesota’s defense. At the same time, they are now entering a new era, one that includes Ifeadi Odenigbo. Even though he has some big shoes to fill, Odenigbo is more than qualified to take Griffen’s position.

Overview of Ifeadi Odenigbo’s 2019 Season

During his first stint with the Vikings last year, Odenigbo put up some solid numbers. Even though he was playing behind Griffen, he ended the season with 23 tackles. He also recorded seven sacks, which is very impressive considering he wasn’t a starter. He only played 34 percent of defensive snaps. During the season he forced a fumble, and recovered two fumbles, bringing one of those to the house.

What can we expect to see from Odenigbo in 2020?

Standing at 6’3″, and weighing 258 pounds, Odenigbo has a great build for a defensive end. Because he was able to learn from someone like Griffen, he has the opportunity to grow this year as a defensive leader. Between him and Danielle Hunter, the Vikings will have two young and fierce ends. If Hunter and Odenigbo can both continue to improve, Minnesota will be in very good shape.

The one big question is: Can Odenigbo transfer his success from last year to this season? Now that he doesn’t have someone like Griffen to split reps with, it could damage his productivity. While Danielle Hunter has proved that he can be a starter, Odenigbo hasn’t had the reins handed to him yet. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to a starting position this year.

If he wants to have a career as a starter, he will have to prove himself this year. Despite the pressure, Ifeadi has a lot going for him, and should see some phenomenal success in the Vikings 2020 season.
