Titans Rookie struggling with NFL Transition early on?
- Dennis Kelly
- isaiah wilson
- Jack Conklin
- Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are primed for a season to remember. Which rookie is putting themselves at risk to not be part of it?
Everyone has heard of the dreaded Super Bowl hang over, but have you ever heard of the NFL Draft hangover? Tennessee Titans rookie offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson seems to be struggling with adapting to the NFL life. Wilson was drafted with the 29th overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft to replace Jack Conklin, who is now with the Cleveland Browns via free agency.
Trouble Early On
With mounting anticipation, Wilson started making headlines early in camp for all the wrong reasons. However, Wilson found himself on the COVID-19/Reserve list when he was spotted at an off campus party at Tennessee State University. That not only violated the team’s no visitor policy, but also the NFL’s policy of not attending gatherings of more than fifteen people. It had also been reported that Wilson was contemplating jumping off a roof at said party. Not a good look early on for the first round draft pick.
Struggles continue
Wilson was removed from the COVID/Reserve list early in August. That was just in time for Wilson to report to camp to get acquainted with his new team and to fight veteran tackle Dennis Kelly for the starting job. Kelly had recently agreed to a three year contract with the Titans that is worth up to $21M.
When you draft a player in the first round you hope to be getting a day one impact player. The idea that Wilson is going to be a developmental player becomes more realistic daily as it has been reported that his technique needs a lot of improvement.
#Titans Monday Practice Report, per @BuckReising:
– Isaiah Wilson’s technique needs a lot of improvement…spends a lot of time on the ground, Stands up out of his stance and gives up leverage– Jayon Brown took Ty Sambrillo No. 70 off his feet on a screen left to clog it up

It cant get much worse….right?
Week one is quickly approaching and it seems the Titans will be without their first round draft pick. On September 6th, Wilson was placed back on the COVID/Reserve list. However, it is currently unknown to the public how Wilson landed back on the list for a second time. What we do know is that Wilson must put himself in better positions to help his team moving forward.
Wilson will continue to serve as a high potential developmental player as Kelly gets the much deserved start.
