Who are the Memphis Grizzlies?

When you think of the Memphis Grizzlies you think of Tony Allen The Grindfather, Zach Randolph aka ZBo, Big Spain Marc Gasol… you think of Grit n Grind! Tough defense and methodical offense, a blue-collar brand of basketball that was a perfect representation of the city. An era that brought 7 playoff appearances and its first ever conference finals appearance. An era that we sadly had to say goodbye to, but with every ending comes a new beginning. After just two drafts and a new front office, the Memphis Grizzlies are back in the playoff race with a few new players who bring a different attitude and swagger. They call themselves hashtag GrzNxtGen ( Grizzlies Next Generation ). A young, flashy, athletic group of guys who are not afraid to back down from anyone on and off the court.

These guys are bringing new excitement back into the city of Memphis and here’s why.

Ja Morant

It starts with the 6’3 number two pick from the 2019 NBA draft. He has handles like Allen Iverson, the athleticism of Derrick Rose in his prime, and the basketball IQ of Steve Nash. What’s not to love?As a rookie, he’s leading the Grizzlies back into the playoff race currently sitting at the 8th seed. He has all the confidence in the world and is letting everyone know who he is.

Ask James Harden

At 20 years old there’s a lot to be excited about. Once he starts to add some bulk and develop a mid range shot, the rest of the league will be in trouble. His future is bright, take a look through his “Jaggles”

Jaren Jackson Jr.

The 6’11 big man taken fourth overall in the 2018 draft is the next reason why Grizzlies fans are feeling optimistic. Do you believe in unicorns? Well they do in Memphis! A big man who can shoot the 3 ball, score from the post, catch lobs, and cross over your favorite player.

In only his second season, He is already being compared to other unicorns like Kristaps Porzingis and Pascal Siakam. Did i forget to mention that he is also a great defender? At the age of 20, both Jaren and Ja will become one of the most exciting duos in the NBA.

Brandon Clarke

Imagine Shawn Marion with a better 3 pt shot. Well that’s Brandon Clarke! High energy, elite athleticism, and will catch any lob you throw at the rim. Taken late in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft, Clarke is easily one of the biggest steals of the draft. He can finish at the rim, knock down open shots, and guard multiple positions on defense. With a pass happy point guard in Ja Morant, it wouldn’t be much longer before Clarke becomes a major contributor to this offense. Jaren Jackson’s ability to play the center position will allow both of them to be on the floor at the same time, don’t be surprised when he becomes a full time starter.

When you have these 3 guys at the core, combined with the other young pieces on the team( Dillon Brooks, De’Anthony Melton,  Justise Winslow, Tyrus Jones, and Josh Jackson ), you can see that this organization has rebuilt this team the right way. Grizzlies fans should be thrilled. The GrzNxtGen era is here and they will be the first ones to let you know!
