Ryan Tannehill has agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans on the cusp of free agency. What does this mean for other contracts?

Ryan Tannehill, the 31-year-old signal-caller, who was drafted and traded by the Dolphins, has agreed to a contract extension. News broke that an agreement had been reached, and Ryan Tannehill would be staying in Nashville, as reported by Ian Rapport.  It explains the recent cuts the Titans just made to clear more cap space.

Last season was a prolific season for the former Miami Dolphin. He took over for Marcus Mariota, who had begun to struggle. After stepping in, Tannehill and his squad went 7-3 stealing the wildcard spot to getting into the playoffs. He threw 2,742 passing yards with a 22/6 touchdown to interception ratio en route to a 2019 Comeback player of the year.

Derrick Henry had a prolific season with Tannehill under center as well and was the NFL rushing leader. Tannehill made calls at the line many times throughout the season, putting Henry in more favorable positions. Together the two seemed unstoppable. Load the box to stop Henry, and Tannehill is torching the defense with a deep play-action shot.

His playoff run ended one game short in the AFC championship to Kansas City. The blame could go anywhere, but Patrick Mahomes just took over that game. It was a revenge game for the Chiefs after losing a close one to the Titans in the regular season, 35-32.

What’s next for Ryan Tannehill?

Now that Ryan Tannehill has been secured, the next step is ensuring their bell-cow back. Expect Derrick Henry to be franchise tagged soon as well. Then the Titans will have the consistency that they have been preaching this offseason. The only question mark will be at right tackle. Do the Titans bring back Jack Conklin or draft another tackle?

Can Tannehill pick up where he left off and continue to torch NFL defenses? That’s precisely what Jon Robinson and the Titans’ front office have decided. By extending Tannehill, it’s not only a vote of confidence, but the upper management thinks that Tannehill offers them the best chance to make another run at the Superbowl.
