The Seattle Seahawks are back to winning ways after their 28-21 win over division rivals Arizona Cardinals. This puts Seattle temporarily one win clear in the NFC West. The Los Angeles Rams have the chance to change this when they face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on ‘Monday Night Football’.

The Return Of Seattle’s Running Game

There was a good balance to this Seattle Seahawks team, with the running game back to it’s best with the return of Carlos Hyde.

Since the week 7 loss to the Cardinals, Seattle has been without both running backs Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde. In last night’s win, Hyde ran for the most yards since both him and Carson last played. Deejay Dallas was the leading rusher in weeks 8 and 9 and Russell Wilson was the leading rusher in week 10.

79 rushing yards against Arizona for the former Houston Texan last night is more than anyone managed the past three game weeks.

Hyde showed how much he was missed. During the first quarter he made a brilliant 17 yard run. This was on 3rd and 3 with just over nine minutes left. It would be a drive that would end in a touchdown for the Seahawks. He also made two other excellent fifteen yard runs in this game.

Russell Wilson’s Performance

In the very first play of the game, Cardinals defensive end Angelo Blackson sacked quarterback Russell Wilson. This had Seattle fans worried about the rest of the game. They cannot go into the post season with performances like this from the offensive line.

Early on in the game, Russell Wilson was hugely pressured. As the game went on, Wilson found his rhythm. The Seahawks got the win and Wilson looked composed throughout the game. Number 3 was criticized in the two consecutive losses to the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams . He looked back to his best last night.

Wilson didn’t attempt a lot of deep throws, which is why we only saw D.K. Metcalf on the receiving end of just five targets all game.

However, when he was called upon, Metcalf showed why he is the true number one receiver in Seattle. Despite the two drops, Metcalf showed why the Seahawks are an entirely different offense with him receiving the ball. Metcalf can get those deep balls that we don’t quite see as much with David Moore or Tyler Lockett.

Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey limited Metcalf to just two receptions from four targets and 28 receiving yards.

Metcalf only managed to get 46 yards in this game but when he was called upon, he got the 27 yard touchdown to give Seattle a 7-0 lead. He gave Arizona cornerback Patrick Peterson a tough time all game.

He would have had 41 more yards had Seattles offensive lineman Damien Lewis not brought the play back through a holding penalty.

How The Defense Performed

This has been an issue for the Seattle Seahawks all season. There can be some room for encouragement after last night’s win.

Former Cincinnati Bengal Carlos Dunlap showed why he was brought in.

Dunlap recorded two sacks to make it 3.5 since joining in week 9, with one causing a loss of 6 yards. Unfortunately, Cardinals running back Kenyan Drake ran for 18 yards on the next play for a first down.

More crucially, his other sack was the game clincher. Dunlap sacked Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray with less than a minute left and on fourth down. The Cardinals did not have enough timeouts to try and get the ball back.

Outside of Dunlap, Quandre Diggs had one stand out moment.

After Murray scrambled out the pocket to the left on 2nd and 8 in the second quarter, he made the throw to tight end Dan Arnold in the middle.

Arnold did well in catching the ball, but was instantly hit by Diggs to cause an incomplete pass. This was a crucial play on defense as a completed pass by Arnold would have put Arizona in field goal range. Instead it was punted away.

With the NFC West as tight as it is, every win is crucial and especially so, against a division rival. This win has denied Arizona the chance of a clean sweep on the head to head and ultimately gives the Seattle Seahawks back some of the confidence they had lost in the Bills and Rams defeats.
