Last week the Green Bay Packers dismantled another NFC North rival. They defeated the Detroit Lions by a score of 42-21 in front of a fan less crowd at Lambeau Field. Running back Aaron Jones rushed for a career-best 168 yards and three touchdowns. We will look at the Packers’ three essential keys to victory versus the New Orleans Saints.

The Packers are now 2-0 and will be facing their first-ever opponent that’s outside of the division in 2020. Their opponent, the New Orleans Saints, a trendy Super Bowl contender that has seemed to have lost it’s mojo when it comes to offensive production.

However, the Saints have been known to hit its stride after facing early season obstacles. Will that stride comes against the Green Bay Packers this Sunday night at the Mercedes Benz Super dome ? Here are the Packers’ three essential keys to victory for when they go on the road to face the Saints on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

1. Stop Alvin Kamara at All Costs

Coming off an injury plagued 2019 season. Running back Alvin Kamara has returned to his 2017-2018 form. The third-round selection out of the University of Tennessee is the Saints’ primary option on offense right now. He can be utilized in many ways, such as catching passes out of the backfield, along with maneuvering through defensive ends when he is carrying the football as a running back. If the Packers defense can minimize his productivity throughout this game, it will put the Saints offense in a world of hurt. Especially without the presence of wide receiver Michael Thomas in the lineup.

2. Don’t Allow Drew Brees to Become Drew Brees

That is because Drew Brees is not the Drew Brees we have all come to know over the last decade. It could be a lack of OTAs halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, or it could be just “Father Time” knocking on the door. Either way, the Packers will need to make Brees uncomfortable in the pocket throughout Sunday night’s football game. If there’s any player that has demonstrated over the years that he can bounce back from adversity, it is Drew Brees.

3. Control the Time of Possession

Last week against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Saints suffered their first loss of the season. Do you know what plays an essential factor in their defeat ? It was the Raiders controlling the time of possession for the majority of the second half. They were able to accomplish that by staying committed to running the football. The Packers have a tailback that can get the job done in Aaron Jones. The longer an opposing team can keep Drew Brees and Alvin Kamara on the sidelines watching, the less effective they will become in crucial situations. These were your Green Bay Packers’ three essential keys to victory versus the New Orleans Saints.
