Bengals Brawl Nate Boyer Interview

Former Texas Longhorns and Seattle Seahawks player and Green Beret, Nate Boyer sat down for an interview with The Bengals Brawl podcast to talk about a number of topics.

Among the topics touched on:

  • How he thinks history will treat (former?) NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick
  • Boyer’s support of the 1st Amendment rights of all Americans.
  • The history of protests among American athletes dating back to the 1968 Olympics
  • And, so much more.

Nate Boyer Has an Inspiring Backstory for an Inspiring American

Boyer had never played a single snap of organized football prior to walking on at the University of Texas. He then deployed to Afghanistan after his redshirt freshman year. He realized the starting and backup long snappers on the Longhorns were both seniors, so he practiced long snapping into a wall, a board, a net and some YouTube videos.

Boyer came back and started 38 consecutive games. When he signed with the Seahawks after the 2015 NFL Draft, he became the oldest rookie in NFL history at age 34.

Making Even More of an Impact Off the Field

Now 39, Boyer has turned his sights to acting, appearing in major TV shows like This is Us and Mayans M.C. as well as playing “Captain McCarthy” in NFL Madden 18’s story mode and being featured in an ESPN documentary.

But, the work Boyer may be most proud of, is: Merging Vets and Players (MVP), co-founded by Boyer alongside Jay Glazer from Fox Sports. MVP is a program that connects veterans with former professional athletes to mutually assist each other in transitioning to life after the uniform.
