The Indianapolis Colts have released veteran defensive tackle Margus Hunt after three seasons. Where will the Colts look to find his replacement?
Three Seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and defensive tackle Margus Hunts’ time in Indy is done. It does not come as a surprise when you consider the fact Hunt lost his job to backup Grover Stewart. It was time to go separate ways as the Colts are trying to upgrade their roster.
In his first two seasons with the Colts, Hunt proved to be a force against the run and pass. Coming over from Cincinnati, Hunt was not thought of to be a big-time difference-maker. Margus Hunt responded to being released on Twitter, saying, “This is a performance-based business, and my performance last year wasn’t up to my standards.”

His recorded stats were 55 tackles with 21 of them being solo, 19 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, four passes defended, one fumble forced and one fumble recovery. Hunt spent his first four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts during the 2017 free agency period. While playing in 91 career games, Hunt has 101 tackles (68 solos), 23 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and seven passes defended.
Who will replace Margus Hunt in Indianapolis?
With Hunt gone, the Colts have an even more pressing need at defensive tackle. The free agency just started, so there are still lots of players out there and also have eight picks in the 2020 NFL draft that is officially scheduled to televise April 23-25. Chris Ballard has preached about the 3-technique driving the Tampa 2 defense.
The free agency window just opened. We will keep a very close eye on the Colts and their moves going forward. Colts nation should expect a few signings are coming.
