Gunnar Vogel is a 2021 NFL Draft Prospect

Gunnar Vogel is an offensive tackle from Northwestern and a prospect in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. Vogel started all of Northwestern’s nine games this season at right tackle. In 2020, he allowed one sack, eight QB hits, 17 hurries, and 26 pressures. According to Pro Football Focus, Vogel finished tied for the 148th-ranked offensive tackle (20% snap minimum) with an Overall grade of 66.6 (71.2 Run Blocking, 50.8 Pass Blocking).

Vogel was a first-team all-state player in high school and earned spots in multiple high school all-star games. He surrendered only two sacks in his varsity career. Earning a three-star rating from most recruiting services, Vogel also received scholarship offers from mostly MAC schools. After choosing Northwestern, he redshirted his freshman year.

Vogel only played in five games the next two seasons, primarily on special teams. In 2019, he broke into the starting role appearing in nine games with nine starts. By his redshirt senior season, Vogel had packed on around 25 pounds since he originally showed up in Evanston.

In the NFL, Vogel projects as a backup offensive lineman that can contribute at multiple positions. He has the ideal dimensions for an offensive tackle but could be better served at guard due to athletic limitations. Conversely, he may not have the strength or power to hold up at guard versus larger interior defenders. Regardless, Vogel is a very smart player who brings great aggressiveness and toughness; his intangibles could endear him to the coaching staff.
