Grant Hermanns is a 2021 NFL Draft Prospect

Grant Hermanns is an offensive tackle from Purdue and a prospect in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. Hermanns started all of Purdue’s six games this season at left tackle. He allowed two sacks, one QB hit, 11 hurries, and 14 pressures. According to Pro Football Focus, Hermanns ranked 155th among offensive tackles (20% snap minimum) with an Overall grade of 65.8 (60.5 Pass Blocking, 68.3 Run Blocking).

Hermanns was a four-year letterman in high school, earning all-state honors as a junior and senior. He also was a heavyweight state champion in wrestling. Hermanns was a three-star recruit with offers from multiple Power Five schools. He eventually selected Purdue and redshirted his first year in 2016.

Hermanns earned the starting job at left tackle as a redshirt freshman but suffered a season-ending injury halfway through the year. He started nine games in 2018, missing three games towards the end of the year, but started every game the last two years. Hermanns was elected a co-captain the last two years and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors the last four years.

At the next level, Hermanns projects as a backup versatile offensive lineman. He has excellent size in terms of height and weight. He moves well and is very smart and patient. But Hermanns lacks the elite strength/power or athleticism to be a consistent, immediate starter. Furthermore, his short-ish arms may require moving inside to guard. Regardless, Hermanns possesses the necessary tools to play in this league and contribute on the backend of the roster.

Scouting Report

  • Patient but quick on his feet with solid movement skills
  • Effective in pass pro to mirror rushers and maintain engagement
  • Would be most effective in an outside zone scheme, as he can move well and engage with blockers on the move
  • Great intangibles: very smart player, leader in the locker room, will draw teammates to him

  • Does not get low enough in his stance, bending over at the waist and giving up leverage
  • Strength/power does not pop on tape, failing to generate tons of movement in the run game
  • Arms are a little short for OT but could be too tall for OG
