Have the Arizona Cardinals done enough in the offseason for Kyler Murray and his team to make a playoff push for next season?

With the first pick in last year’s draft, the Arizona Cardinals took Kyler Murray out of Oklahoma. Murray’s first plan wasn’t even to play in the NFL after he was drafted in the MLB. However, Murray chose to play in the NFL, and Now Arizona has a franchise quarterback to build around. Arizona recently traded for star wide receiver Deandre Hopkins from the Houston Texans for running back David Johnson diving right into making offseason moves.

Arizona has a big future, and they want to start winning as soon as possible. The Cardinals have already made some key offseason moves. With the trade for Hopkins and signing Kenyan Drake to a transition tag and with an offensive mastermind in Kliff Kingsbury as head coach, the Cardinals looks to be taking a step forward in 2020 on offense.

Murray was very impressive as a rookie, and especially for a starting quarterback, Murray trended upward as the season went on. Murray finished with over 3,000 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions and also had over 500 rushing yards and four rushing Touchdowns. With the Additions of Hopkins and Drake and Larry Fitzgerald on the opposite side of Hopkins, Murray is set up for a big second year.

 Issues for Arizona

The biggest problem for the Cardinals is their defense. Arizona’s defense was statistically dead last in overall ranking allowing over 400 yards per game. The Cardinals do have a few plus sides on the defensive side for next season with newly defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and with linebackers Jordan Hicks and Haason Reddick. Arizona will also have veteran linebacker Chandler Jones who recorded 19 sacks last year.¬†The other issue Arizona needs to resolve is their offensive line, Murray was sacked 48 times last year. Murray and his offensive line didn’t fully click last year, but the O-line did improve. Arizona will still need to look to make some additions on their offensive line and restructure its defense.

How the draft will help improve Cardinals roster

Arizona will look to the draft to fill the voids they need. The Cardinals have six draft picks with one of those being the number 8 overall pick Arizona can address any significant needs. They need to protect their quarterback and will probably look to draft an offensive lineman with their first pick. From there, they will look to establish their defense. Arizona could add talented players like Mekhi Becton, Tristan Wirfs, Jaylon Johnson, and Xavier Mckinney.

What to expect for next season

With how their roster is looking right now, Arizona could definitely be a surprise for some people. But their defense is what will hold them back kind of like how the 2018 Kansas City Chiefs were. Arizona drafted well last year and expect them to do it again this time around they don’t need much to finish off and make a great roster. Arizona will look for ways to protect their franchise quarterback and help strengthen their defense and make a run at the playoffs for next season.
