The Philadelphia Eagles lost a hard fought game against a good Pittsburgh Steelers team. Who were the biggest winners and losers from Sunday’s game?

The Eagles offense finally played a great game, but not enough to come out of the game as winners as the defense played their worst game of the season.

Biggest Winners:

Travis Fulgham

Travis Fulgham was a star against the Steelers and was clearly the Eagles biggest winner this week. One week after catching a game-winning touchdown, Fulgham had one of the best games from a receiver in Eagles recent memory. Fulgham displayed great chemistry with Carson Wentz and made plays Eagles fans have not seen a receiver make in quite some time. It is clear that Fulgham deserves a real role in the offense even when players like DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery return from injury.

Carson Wentz

Once again the Eagles were missing seven of eleven offensive starters, which is difficult for any team to deal with.  Despite this, the offense had their best day of the season against one of the best defenses in the NFL. A big reason for their recent improvement has been the improved play from Carson Wentz. If you were to look at his stat line you may not be impressed, but it is obvious he is a much better quarterback than he was through three weeks. Wentz was constantly under duress, but still Wentz showed better accuracy and better anticipation than he has all season. Wentz’ interceptions could be considered unlucky plays as one was on a tipped pass that required a great defensive play, another due to a missed illegal contact on a Zach Ertz route, and a hail mary pass.

Again the stats don’t show how much Wentz has improved these past two weeks in spite of having a skeleton crew on offense to work with. Wentz showed that he is the Eagles franchise quarterback once again.

Biggest Losers:

Third Down Defense

The Steelers were 11-15 on third down, which is 73.3%. The Eagles constantly found themselves unable to get off the field due to not being able to stop the Steelers offense on third down. It seemed like every opportunity the Eagles had to force the Steelers off the field there were penalties, missed assignments or missed tackles that allowed the Steelers to march their way down the field.

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

Arcega-Whiteside finally recorded a catch, but after Fulham’s performance the Eagles cannot justify giving Arcega-Whiteside any real playing time. It’s time to pull the plug on him being an impact player.

Nate Gerry

Please just bench this man. Gerry continues to be one of the worst linebackers in the entire NFL. There is no reason why the Eagles should not play their other linebackers as they cannot be any worse than Gerry. Enough is Enough.

What’s Next?

The Eagles are staring a 1-4-1 record right in the face next week as they host the Baltimore Ravens. Lamar Jackson will make the Eagles linebackers look silly. After that game the Eagles schedule gets easier and they are lucky they play in the NFC East and will probably be in the division race till the end of the season. The Eagles should be getting some healthy bodies back soon which will help tremendously and have found a gem in Travis Fulgham. Things have not been great so far, but they have been improving these past two weeks.

Get Well Soon Dak Prescott

We at Eagles Brawl hate the Cowboys with every fiber of our being, but we never wish for injuries, especially to great players like Dak Prescott. We wish Dak Prescott a speedy recovery and hope he returns to being the great leader and player that he is.
