D’Andre Swift out this Sunday with a concussion.

Thursday afternoon an injury report came out saying the running back D’Andre Swift must go through concussion protocol. This left many fans shocked and confused towards the end of the week. Suddenly, the Lions starting running back is now questionable to play in a big game for the Lions. Many fans are asking the same question, “How does this happen!?”. How does your starting running back possibly have a concussion at the end of the week? What in the world was he doing in practice to get here? Along with, why was coaching not careful this close to Sunday? Those are just some of the questions many are left asking.

Now it is the Friday before the game and it has been officially announced that Swift has been ruled out and will not be playing Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Leaving the Lions scrambling for a new game-plan to use with the running back group.

What does it mean for the Lions now that Swift isn’t playing?

Without Swift, Lions fans are left guessing who will be the starter this Sunday. Many were hoping for Swift to be okay and ready to go, but that is sadly not going be the case.
Without Swift the Lions are missing one of the best young running backs in the NFL. Only with one start Swift has put up really good numbers. 70 rushes for 331 Yards and averages 4.7 yards a carry! With four Touchdowns on the season on the ground in just nine games! By those numbers, you can see without Swift it means the Lions run game is not going to be as good as it could be with Swift playing.

Who will start with Swift out?

As of right now, nothing has been official on who the starter will be. Lions staff and fans were very hopeful for Swift but now with him out, it will be Adrian Peterson or year three player Kerryon Johnson. Many Lions fans would LOVE to see Kerryon get the start. He was a good running back his first two years, but injuries have held him back. That doesn’t mean never start him again. I would love to see Kerryon out there. Though Kerryon seems to be the fan-favorite the stars seem to be aligning to show Adrian Peterson will get the starting role back, with Swift out.

Though Fans still like and enjoy Peterson on the team it just doesn’t seem right to have him start over Johnson. Peterson’s stats this year are not bad, but they could be better. 97 rushes 371 yards with an average of 3.8 yards a carry and 2 touchdowns. Not bad, but also not great. Kerryon’s stats are 30 rushes 112 yards and an average of 3.7 yards a carry and 1 touchdown.

Those are pretty good stats for not having a single start this year, which is why fans think he should start. Let him show what he can do with a lot more attempts. Try and do what we have seen him do before, which is dominate!

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think we can all agree that we are disappointed with the D’andre Swift situation and him being ruled out. But we will get to see a great Battle between the young back in Kerryon Johnson VS future HOF Adrian Peterson and fans are hoping for a Kerryon Johnson start which we haven’t seen in a very long time. But no matter who the starter will be, we all have the same goal at the end of the day, which is WIN!
