Browns Wildcard Dreams Punctuated with Inactives

The Dawg Pound has waited 18 painful years for this day, just to have a number of inactives for the Cleveland Browns’ Wildcard Weekend matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

At 8:15 pm, the Browns face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card game. This will be their first postseason game since 2003 when they fell to Steelers at Hinez Field. It took until Week 17 when the Browns clinched a postseason spot against these same Steelers they face tonight. As mentioned, these two teams faced off last Sunday where the Browns narrowly won the game 24-22.

The last time the Cleveland Browns won in Pittsburgh was also in 2003. Needless to say, the Browns have a tall task ahead of them tonight. Since the Browns returned to the NFL as an expansion team in 1995. The Steelers have completely dominated the divisional rivalry. The Steelers lead the all-time series record at 77-60-1. Though if there is a positive note for the Browns to look at. It’s that they’ve won the last two out of four meetings. Though both wins came in Cleveland.

Due to COVID-19 and injuries, the Browns will be without some key players and coaches tonight. Cornerback Denzel Ward (C-19), Cornerback Kevin Johnson (C-19), Defensive End Olivier Vernon (torn Achilles) and Head Coach Kevin Stefanski (C-19). Special teams coach Mike Priefer will handle the coaching duties. Offensive Coordinator Alex Van Pelt will handle the play-calling duties.

Expected Lineup changes and Inactives:

WR Marvin Hall

S Jovante Moffatt

S Tedric Thompson

T Alex Taylor

WR Ja’Marcus Brantley

DE Joe Jackson

Lineup changes:

Robert Jackson starts at CB for Denzel Ward

Michael Dunn starts at LG for Joel Bitonio

Game Captain:

Myles Garrett

Ward, Bitonio, Johnson and WR KhaDarel Hodge are on the reserve/COVID-19 list and will not play. If the Browns win tonight’s game, they will travel to the Kansas City Chiefs next weekend.
