Caleb Huntley is a 2021 NFL Draft Prospect
Caleb Huntley is a running back from Ball State and a prospect for the 2021 NFL Draft. Huntley started three games this year before suffering an injury and opting out of the rest of the season.
Huntley was great in his three starts, rushing for over 100 yards in all three efforts. Overall, he recorded 437 yards on 80 carries (5.5 YPC) with 6 touchdowns. Against Eastern Michigan, he ran for 204 yards on 34 carries (6.0 YPC) with 3 touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus, Huntley ranked 30th (with no snap minimums) among all running backs with an Overall grade of 86.3 (85.2 Rushing, 80.7 Pass Blocking, 53.6 Receiving).
In his high school career, Huntley totaled 3,135 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns. He finished his senior season with 229 carries for 1,487 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2016. Furthermore, he rushed for over 100 yards every game as a senior and holds the school’s single-season rushing record and rushing yards per game record. Huntley was rated as a 3-star prospect with offers from a variety of Group of Five schools.
Huntley made an impact immediately as a true freshman, playing in twelve games with seven starts, and rushing for 1000 yards. He suffered an ankle injury that caused him to miss most of his sophomore season. But Huntley came back with a vengeance in 2019, rushing for 1275 yards and 12 touchdowns, earning All-MAC 2nd-team honors. He also increased his yards per carry every year in college, despite missing time due to injuries.
In the NFL, Huntley projects as an early-down power back that will contribute on the goal-line. He’s built like a bowling ball and loves contact, so a gap-power scheme would suit him very well. He was not asked to catch the ball very much in college, but he’s a very willing blocker, so he could develop into a solid three-down option later in his career.
