The AFC East is the Bills to lose in 2020

The AFC East has been a bit of a procession in recent times, as the New England Patriots have won every year since 2008. However, it now looks like the dynasty could be over and the other teams have got a chance to pick up the title, with one in particular worth noting.

Do the Miami Dolphins have a chance?

The Dolphins have been in a transition period over the last few years. The team have finally managed to get themselves the guy that they want to lead the team in Tua Tagovailoa. Despite the injury history he still looks to be a quality QB. Tua will look to bring his college form to the NFL. The Dolphins have got some good young wide receivers in Preston Williams and DeVante Parker, as well as an exciting tight end in Mike Gesicki.

Defensively the team is not great, but has improved compared to last year. Coach Brian Flores has the team playing much better than the sum of its parts. The Fins hold a number of draft picks next year in a hope to get better in the future. The Dolphins are currently 9/1 to win the division and the bookmakers have got them at this price for a reason. They won’t win this year but maybe if they keep rebuilding they will be able to challenge in the future.

Can the Green Machine make an impact?

The New York Jets have managed to get themselves some more weapons for QB Sam Darnold via free agency and the 2020 draft. Free agent Breshad Perriman and draftee Denzel Mims have joined Jamison Crowder in a potentially decent wide receiver core. Le’Veon Bell will continue as the main running back, but he is not the player he once was.

The Jets have not won the AFC East since 2002 and face an uphill battle to do so in 2020. The defense was looking strong and could have been the backbone of this team. However, the loss of star safety Jamal Adams will be tough to overcome. Also, the Jets have got a tough schedule coming this year. With their dilapidated roster, you have to feel that they might not be able to make much impact on the title. The bookmakers have priced them up at 17/2 for the title and you wouldn’t want to be backing them.

Can the Patriots retain the AFC East without Tom Brady?

The New England Patriots have won the AFC East title every year since 2008. But, there has been a lot of change this off-season and it will be interesting to see what happens in New England. The offense has lost its stalwart QB with Tom Brady moving to Tampa Bay. However, the Patriots signed former MVP Cam Newton at a huge discount. While last years rookie Jarrett Stidham remains on the roster. No-one really knows how Cam Newton’s fitness is until he plays. Along with this change the Pats have got a few players sitting out due to Covid-19 and have a tough schedule ahead.

The positives for the Patriots is that Julian Edelman is back for another year and N’Keal Harry is back from injury. Harry will be hoping to improve in his a second year. The other plus is that with the same coaching team as the last few years. This coaching staff knows how to get the team over the line and win games with little offensive talent. The Pats are priced up at 6/5 which is very big for a 12-time defending champion but very short considering the amount of disruption there has been this off-season. Can they win the AFC East? yes. Will they? No.

Is 2020 finally the Bills time?

The Buffalo Bills last won the AFC East in 1995 and have been struggling for many years. Still, the last couple they have started to look like they could win the title. The defense has been a massive strength for the Bills recently and you have to think that will continue this year.  The bookmakers have them at 6/5, the same as the New England Patriots but they are a much more settled side this year.

On the offense the Bills have added top wide receiver Stefon Diggs as another great option for QB Josh Allen. With Diggs, the Bills also employ Jon Brown and Cole Beasley as solid options and an exciting running back duo of Devin Singletary and draftee Zack Moss. The Bills will be a defense-first team. However, with Allen’s ability to run the ball and the extra attacking threats to the team they are in prime position to win the AFC East.

Tip: Bet the Buffalo Bills to win the AFC East at 6/5.
