The Packers look to start 4-0 on Monday Night against the Atlanta Falcons. How far can the great Aaron Rodgers take this team in 2020?

The Green Bay Packers went 3-0 on Sunday after their 37-30 win on the road against the New Orleans Saints in the Super Dome. It was a battle between two great quarterbacks in Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

Aaron Rodgers is playing at a level we have not seen in a few years. He has started the season off very well, which many were not expecting after the 2020 NFL Draft. The Packers traded up in the first round to seemingly get Rodgers’ replacement in Utah State quarterback Jordan Love.

There was a lot of uncertainty as to how Rodgers would react to the drafting of Love. Many also wondered how the chemistry between Rodgers and head coach Matt LaFleur would be.

A rising star at wide receiver?

It turns out that this drafting of Jordan Love has actually helped the Packers. They were criticized for not taking a wide receiver in the draft but have managed to find a reliable second-choice wideout in Allen Lazard. The Packers signed him from the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad in December 2018.

Aaron Rodgers is managing to unlock receivers such as Allen Lazard and the use of running back Aaron Jones means that Rodgers has far less pressure to make the throws, which has so far this season given Rodgers the freedom to throw those dimes to his receivers.

Improving relationship with LaFleur

Rodgers and LaFleur also seem to be growing as a head coach and quarterback duo and Rodgers has publicly spoken about how the pair’s relationship.

“We spent many hours talking. It was great for us all to get some strength in the grounding of our friendship and our working relationship. It has really changed the way we’ve installed plays and are communicating things.”

In a similar fashion, Aaron Rodgers was drafted in the first round by Green Bay when they still had Brett Favre. It is no secret that Favre didn’t warm to Rodgers who was seen as his successor. That could have easily been the situation with Rodgers and Love.

It is unclear what the relationship is between Rodgers and Love. Aaron stated he was “not thrilled” about the decision. However, the Packers number 12 appears to be determined more than ever, which can only be good for Green Bay.

Rodgers playing at his best will not only benefit the Green Bay Packers on the field, but will also help the development of Jordan Love.

So How Far Can Green Bay Go?

Green Bay have been excellent so far this season in their 3-0, with two of their three wins against teams who made the playoffs in 2019. They have an easier few games on paper to come. Their next opponents are the Atlanta Falcons, who are in completed disarray. A bye week follows before they then face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans and then Minnesota Vikings.

The Falcons, Texans and Vikings are a combined 1-10 so far this season and Green Bay will fancy their chances to get wins in all three games. Tampa in week six and the San Francisco 49ers in week nine will be two tough games. The Packers’ NFC North division rivals Chicago Bears are also 3-1.

Allen Lazard has recently been ruled out indefinitely, which will open up opportunities for wide receivers such as Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who will use week one as inspiration. Scantling caught for 96 yards and a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings.

The second half of the Packers’ schedule is rather favorable. Weeks 11 and 12 against the grittiness of the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts will present a challenge for Green Bay. However it is the week 16 matchup against the Tennessee Titans that will present the toughest challenge to Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur after week nine. The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Lambeau Field in week 10, as do the Philadelphia Eagles in week 13 and the Detroit Lions in week 14.

Potential W’s?

The Jaguars, Lions and Eagles have all struggled so a Packers win would be expected in all three fixtures. The Packers’ schedule appears to be favorable this season the way the season has gone so far. This can help Green Bay towards the play offs, particularly with Aaron Rodgers under center, Davante Adams to throw to and Aaron Jones to run the ball. The Packers have some studs on offense and this will always give them a chance.
