A 2021 NFL Draft “What if” Game

With the amount of buzz that is going on regarding the 2021 NFL Draft, I thought it makes sense to play around with a concept for readers. It is called “what would you do if?” I will present a scenario involving the 2021 NFL Draft, and then you could decide which decision is correct. So here we go!

What would you do if?

You are the Jacksonville Jaguars. The New England Patriots call and ask about the number one overall pick. They offer their #1 pick this year, next year, and in 2023. On top of that, the Pats will send you a three in 2022, and a four in 2023. Keep in mind all they want is the top pick. You would no longer have the opportunity to select Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence; however, you will have an even bigger stockpile of draft picks. The main concern would be if Lawrence becomes a star, and that New England’s first-rounders become late ones. Do you do pull the trigger on this deal as the Jags GM?

Yes or No?

What do you do if?

You are the Chicago Bears sitting at pick number twenty. Both quarterbacks Mac Jones and Trey Lance are still on the board. However, you badly need offensive linemen. Every one of your offensive line targets remains available. Do you:

  1. Mac Jones
  2. Trey Lance
  3. Offensive lineman

What do you do if?

You are the Miami Dolphins at pick number three. Washington calls you about swapping pick three with number nineteen because they want to draft a franchise quarterback. However, you will also receive Washington’s second and fourth-round picks in 2021, not to mention Washington’s sixth-rounder in 2022. Keep in mind the Dolphins selected a QB last year in Tua Tagovailoa, so loading up around him could help, especially considering that you draft twice in the first round anyway. Do you do make this move if you are the Dolphins front office?

Yes or No?

What do you do if?

You are the Cincinnati Bengals at pick number five. Both Ja’Marr Chase and Kyle Pitts are on the board. Chase is arguably the top receiver in the draft, while Pitts is a generational talent at tight end. However, while you are on the clock, Minnesota asks about swapping first-round picks with you (they pick at fourteen). Along with the swap, they will also give you all three of the fourth-rounders in ’21 and a second-round pick in 2022. Do you:

  1. Ja’Marr Chase
  2. Kyle Pitts
  3. Trade with Minnesota

That’s a wrap on the 2021 NFL Draft Version of “what would you do if?” I hope you had fun!
